CHRISTMAS TIME'S A-COMING

Christmas album number six by the legendary Oak Ridge Boys can be summed up by two words: Peterbilt Sleigh!!!  If you do nothing else this entire Christmas season, treat yourself to dinner at Cracker Barrel, and buy this CD while you're out just so you can listen to this song.  This gem sung by Joe Bonsall is hilarious, intelligent, outrageous and just all around fun to listen to and sing.  The lyrics here are so brilliant, that you can't even imagine where the idea came for this song.  Some of you may remember a cute Christmas song Joe sang about 10 years ago called "The Most Inconvenient Christmas".  If you liked that song, you will LOVE this one.  This is, hands down, the crown jewel of this CD. Moving on....

For the remaining eleven songs on this CD, the Oak Ridge Boys continue their Christmas album excellence from beginning to end.  Classics like "Let It Snow!...", "White Christmas", "Joy To The World" and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" are pulled off in near perfect fashion, nailing the harmonies, and bringing a smile to the face of the listener.  The human sub-woofer, Richard Sterban, shines on "Here Comes Santa Claus", and showcases his voice in a beautiful song called "All I Want For Christmas Is You".

Another classic, "Mary Did You Know" is sung to perfection by William Lee Golden.  He also treats us to one of the best songs on the CD, the title track, "Christmas Time's A-Coming".  This is a fun, sing-a-long, hand-clappin', foot stompin' country song that you will be singing long after the CD is done.

The "Ace", Duane Allen, offers two very beautiful songs here.  "Getting Ready For A Baby" is a thought-provoking song that tells the story of the trials and tribulations Mary very well could have experienced being an unwed young pregnant girl trying to convince the general public she conceived by the Holy Spirit....yeah right, like you wouldn't have looked at her like she was crazy too!  Then, to close out the CD, our ears and spirit are blessed with the song "Glorious Impossible".  This is a majestic song proclaiming the very thing so many of us take for granted each day....the fact that God Almighty, Creator Of The Universe, became a helpless human baby for the sole purpose of enduring the cross, suffering pain, paying the penalty for our sins, and ultimately dying; only to raise from the dead, defeating Death, Hell, and the Grave to offer us life eternal with Him.  (You have no idea how excited my spirit became as I just finished typing the last four lines!!!)

So, where does this particular CD stand against the other 5 Christmas albums released by the Oak Ridge Boys?  In this reviewers humble opinion, this album is tied for #1 with.......the other 5!!!  The Oaks do Christmas songs so incredibly well, they are all an exercise in excellence, showing all other artists how to perform Christmas classics, new and old, in absolute perfection.  This CD is a must have for any Christmas season.
